RCA Black Women & Girls Conference
My name is Patrice T. Green. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, the local chapter, Richland County Alumnae, and I serve as a Co-Chair for the Black Women & Girls (BW&G) Conference Committee.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world.
Founded on January 13, 1913, by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University, the Sorority is currently a sisterhood of more than 300,000 predominantly Black college educated women. This includes 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea.
The major programs of the sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:
• Economic Development
• Physical and Mental Health
• Educational Development
• Political Awareness and Involvement
• International Awareness and Involvement
Richland County Alumnae (RCA) was chartered on April 24, 1994, and for the past 27 years, the chapter has steadfastly served the communities of Richland, Lexington, Newberry, and Fairfield counties.
Our chapter has hosted the annual Black Women & Girls (BW&G) Conference for over 20 years, which is held on the 3rd Saturday in March. The purpose of our conference is to educate, empower, and engage the black women and brown girls in our service area. With that, our legacy continued despite the challenges of COVID-19; in fact, we engaged over 250 adults and youth via the virtual conference in a very impactful and meaningful way. This year we are hosting a 2-day conference, Friday, March 17, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, via Zom, the target audience: Counselors, Nurses, LMSWs, LISWs, LCSWs and Non-Licensed Social Workers. Two CEUs will be offered to participants. Saturday, March 18, 2023, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, Midlands Technical College Airport Campus, the target audience: Black women and MS/HS female scholars in our 4-county service area (Fairfield, Lexington, Newberry & Richland). Please share the attached flyer to help us promote these awesome educational, empowering and engaging events. We hope to host 300 participants for the face-to-face event; thank you for your assistance with helping us reach our goal.
