High school students from Brookland-Cayce and Airport built walls earlier this year for one of the homes along Tree Street, part of Habitat for Humanity’s Cayce Blitz Build.
Thursday, August 23, that home -- along with two others -- were part of a dedication ceremony, a moment to celebrate even as work on the neighborhood revitalization goes on.
Jamecia Oliver, along with her sons, will move into the home built by students in Kenny Shumpert’s class. Many families who were part of Thursday’s dedication have children now attending Lexington Two schools.
Students’ building of the walls was a significant cost savings for the Habitat project. Lexington Two employees also worked as volunteers on the neighborhood build.
