Airport High's JROTC drill team brings home state championship

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Airport High School's nationally recognized JROTC drill team brought home another top honor this weekend.
 
The 26-member Golden Talons placed first in the SC High School Army JROTC State Championship, the eighth consecutive year Airport has brought home the state title. Fourteen teams competed at the event, which Airport High hosted on Saturday, Dec. 2. 
 
Airport will now travel to North Carolina in February to compete against teams from seven states in the 4th Brigade Best of the Best.
 

Saturday's state title was the most recent honor for the Airport squad, which has won local, state and national recognition. The team captured the League Championship for the 13th consecutive year at Lower Richland High in November and finished third in the National High School Drill Team Championships this spring in Florida.

 

In addition to the first place finish overall, Airport received several other honors from the 4th Brigade championship event Saturday, among them:
