Airport's free football camps draw 200-plus participants

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Airport High School’s two free summer football clinics drew more than 200 participants from the community to the campus this month.

Both events – the Friday Night Lights Youth Camp and Moms Football Clinic – were coached by Airport Athletic Director and Football Coach Shane Fidler, along with his team of assistant coaches and Airport football players. All participants took to the field at Eagle Stadium.

Youth camp participants ages 5-12 learned football skills on the field and got lessons in conditioning and weightlifting. Participants in the Moms Football Clinic did workouts in the weight room, watched game film and plays, suited up in pads and gear, and then held a short scrimmage in the stadium.

The second annual clinics have quickly become community favorites.

“Our Airport football program loves hosting our Friday Night Lights Youth Camp and our Moms’ Clinic,” said Athletic Director and head football coach Shane Fidler.  “We want to connect our program to the current and future stakeholders of it. Building that trust and comfort with our community is of utmost importance, as we are tasked with the role of developing young men into future leaders.”

Fidler said he looks forward to building on the tradition. “There is no doubt that people in our community love their Eagles!”
