Drill team takes first place in 4th Brigade Best of the Best Championship

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Airport High School’s Army JROTC drill team brought home another top honor this past weekend, finishing first overall in the 4th Brigade Best of the Best Drill Team Championship.

 

It's a title the Golden Talon team has held since 2014.

 

Airport’s team competed in the invitation-only event against 15 of the top Army JROTC drill teams from the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. The event was held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

 

In addition to placing first overall, Airport’s Golden Talon drill team also received:

 

First Place Platoon Inspection w/o Arms

First Place Platoon Regulation w/o Arms

Third Place Platoon Exhibition w/o Arms

Fourth Place Color Guard

 

Team members include Israel Campos, Tionta Darby, Jordan Dunlap, Matthew Hartley, Mackenzie Laskowski, Grace Martey, Carrol Moore, Alicia Oree, Katrina Perez-Ruiz, Carolina Redmond-Murrillo, Kennel Santos, Kierstin Stubaus, and Damaris Zenmeno.  Airport’s team is led by Command Sgt. Maj. Harry Ferguson, a senior Army instructor. 

 

Airport’s drill team has won numerous recognitions this school year, including the All-Army Palmetto State Drill Team Championship, the 15th consecutive year the team has won the state title.
