The Airport Eagles kicked off the football season in a big way at its home opener on Friday night, earning an impressive 34–7 victory over Pelion. While the scoreboard tells the story of a great night on the field, the real story of this team began long before Friday night.

Following a challenging season last year, Athletic Director and Head Coach Chris Napier and his staff went to work with a clear vision for the future of not only football, but all Airport sports. They knew talent wasn’t the problem. The focus became developing a culture built around discipline, accountability, strength, preparation, and doing the little things right,  both on and off the field.

One of the biggest changes came with moving practices and workouts to 6:00 a.m., rather than after school. That early-morning commitment has fundamentally transformed the program. Long before the first bell rings, players are already working, learning what it means to show up on time, push through adversity, hold one another accountable, and begin each day with purpose.

The result has been a new level of discipline and work ethic that extends far beyond the football field.

But the transformation hasn’t stopped with football.

A school-wide strength and conditioning program for Airport student-athletes has created an opportunity to build stronger, healthier, and better-prepared athletes across sports programs. The emphasis is not simply on getting bigger or stronger, but about creating consistent habits, developing confidence, and giving student-athletes the tools they need to perform at their best.

Another major piece of that effort has been the collaboration with the food service staff at Airport. Recognizing that training is only part of developing an athlete, the program has placed a greater emphasis on ensuring that students have the nutrition they need to support the work they are putting in each day. Athletes across all sports now have access to breakfast, a post-lift snack, lunch, and a take-home dinner each day.

That partnership has been a game changer.

This holistic approach, combining early-morning grit, consistent strength and conditioning, proper nutrition, accountability, and a coaching staff committed to developing the whole student-athlete, is already paying tremendous dividends. This offseason alone, the average Airport football player has gained approximately 18 pounds of solid strength, a reflection of months of consistent work and commitment.

During the season opener on August 21,  Eagle Nation got to see some of that work come to life.

The Eagles took the field looking stronger, more disciplined, confident, focused, and prepared to compete. The 34–7 victory was certainly something to celebrate, but perhaps even more exciting was seeing the culture being built behind the scenes begin to show under the Friday night lights.

Much of what Coach Napier and his staff have poured into this program will never be seen from the stands. It happens during those early mornings, in the weight room, during meetings and practices, and in the countless conversations in which coaches challenge their players while reminding them that they believe in them.

While there is still a lot of football to play and plenty of work ahead this season, one thing is clear: there is a renewed energy around Airport Football, and Eagle Nation is excited to see where it leads.

Congratulations to Coach Napier, his entire coaching staff, the players, food service staff, and everyone who has played a role in supporting this new approach. Friday night's win belongs to far more than the players who stepped onto the field, it represents a school-wide commitment to helping Airport’s student-athletes succeed.

The work continues. The standard is rising. And Eagle Nation is here for it! πŸ’™πŸ€πŸ¦…

ONE TEAM. ONE GOAL. EAGLE PRIDE!
